Competently helping with Policy Governance

1. Where can my board obtain competent Policy Governance consulting?

   John Carver, creator of the Policy Governance model, and Miriam Carver are together the authoritative source for Policy Governance theory and practice. It is they who provide the high level Policy Governance training for others who wish to be qualified Policy Governance consultants. When they are unavailable, those who've gone through the Carvers' Policy Governance Academy and kept up to date with further training and reading are the best choices.

2. How can I, as a successful management consultant, add Policy Governance to my offerings?

   Our personal consulting cannot meet the worldwide demand, nor even can the consulting of persons we have trained. Consultants incorrectly identifying themselves as competent in Policy Governance have caused damage—normally by not fully understanding the model themselves and/or by fudging on one aspect or another of what is designed as an integrated system. From one to three times annually we accept a small number of persons into a five day intensive training in theory and practice (the Policy Governance Academy^SM —see our home page). Attendance is limited to persons who can demonstrate an advanced understanding of Policy Governance. Many people currently consulting with or teaching the model fail the entrance test.

3. Is there a way to become certified as a qualified Policy Governance consultant?

   Currently there is no certification available, though the International Policy Governance Association contemplates creating one in the future. The route to Policy Governance consulting competence is attendance at the Policy Governance Academy^SM taught by John and Miriam Carver (see elsewhere on this site). The Academy is a five day intensive training in theory and practice for persons able to demonstrate an already advance understanding of Policy Governance.

4. Do you provide ongoing support to persons you've trained in the Policy Governance Academy^SM ?

   We provide limited support and occasional advanced training opportunities. Many of the persons trained since 1995 in the Academy are members of the International Policy Governance� Association or the UK Policy Governance� Association. These associations act not only to establish an ongoing interchange of Policy Governance best practices, but to work for wider awareness of governance excellence in nonprofit, governmental, and equity corporate sectors. We are supportive of but independent from IPGA and UKPGA.
